what is cyberculture

Literature across the internet and books indicate the broadness and dynamic conceptual features of cyberculture. Many have defined the concept differently, some uttered based on their philosophical perspective and others from practical point of view, on the personal and ICT (new technological tools, computer) interaction. Moreover, Jackob Macek (no date) reviewing on the conceptual definition of cyberculture stated that, the term cyberculture has lacked explicit meaning. Similarly, others who agree on the flexibility of the term, define in consideration to the undefined boundaries of cyberculture, ‘cyber-topics’, refer to the virtual communities, for instance cybernetics, computerization, digital revolution, cyborgization of the human body, and so on. Thus, cyberculture becomes confusing and ambiguous terminology to specify its clear cut defining concepts.

To my understanding, the definition of cyberculture has been becoming wider and wider from time to time, as the technological development continues to evolve. Therefore, the definition steams from the dynamic integrity and usability of ICT products in most dimensions of our socio-cultural practices.

Given what is critically forwarded above, in my opinion, I similarly see the controversy of the term, cyberculture, as it is applied in unlimited cultural boundary to most of our daily activities. Consequently, most of the human daily activities (communication, business, education, media…and so on) are mediated by the dynamically emerging new technological advancement (networking, accessibility, software and the transaction system). That is why, users of cyberculture were described as “emerging forms of society transformed by ICTs” Jackob Macek (p. 02, no date).

This is my brainstorming on the definition of cyberculture, and your comments and critics are appreciated.

where are you in cyberculture environment?

This is New, my neighbor, from Lao (Asia) who sometimes borrow my mobile to play game. After practicing a few times on the car racing game in my mobile, New(my neighbor), amazingly became competitor on car racing of the game. I just wondered on his few days practice, but efficient usability of the features of the game type. He is such a smart boy. I hope he will have similar opportunities even after he go back to Lao.

Therefore, in this blog, i will post my exposure, experience, readings and reflection on cyberculture. Issues related to what is cyberculture, the role of cyberculture for human communication and learning capabilities, the dynamism of cyberculture interactivity and its affordability to utilize digital information using newly appearing tools. Therefore, your comments and suggestions to this blog will in-depth my insight to the issues i am curious to know about.
